Indianapolis is the site of the Indianapolis 500 car race, held every year at the massive Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Known as “The Greatest Spectacle is Racing,” the 500 mile race is the oldest racing event in the world (1911). It is also the largest single-day sporting event in the world, and the most viewed sporting event. An estimated 320 million people wtached the race in 2005. In addition, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway is the largest sporting venue in the world and holds up to 400,000 people.
