Step
1.) Read the client order. An example client order may
read " I'll have 16 ounces of fruit punch, 32 ounces of
orange soda, and 64 ounces of ginger ale.
-
Step
2.) Start with the first item in the client order "16
ounces of fruit punch". Select 1 pint (16 ounces) from the "cup
size" menu.
-
Step
3.) Next, select "fruit punch"
from the "soda types" menu.
-
Step
4.) Click on the "punch"
bottle (the first one). Since you selected 1 pint from the cup size
menu and fruit punch from the soda types menu, the bottle will fill
1 pint with fruit punch. Repeat as necessary to fill the rest of
the order. Click "send"
when you are satisfied. *NOTE - for an order that requires 48 or
64 ounces, you must make proper conversions (i.e. 64 ounces equals
2 quarts).
Rationale/Skills
for Artie Ounces Soda Jerk
Grade
Level: Fourth and Up
Skills: Converting Metric Units of Capacity
Object: Fill as many customer drink orders as
possible in five minutes.
Artie Ounces Soda Jerk was created because there are very few games on the internet
in which students can practice converting metric capacity units, despite the
fact that these skills are tested on virtually every state standardized exam.
In Artie Ounces Soda Jerk, the user runs a soda shop and receives customer orders
that have to be converted to more convenient units. For example, a user might
read the following order "I would like to order 16 ounces of fruit punch,
40 ounces of lemonade and 48 ounces of orange soda."
Students must fulfill the order by converting the ounces units to more
convenient units such as cups, pints, quarts, and gallons. In the above
example, the student would convert 16 ounces to one pint, 40 ounces
to a quart and a cup, and 48 ounces to a quart and a pint. It is a
challenging game, but the conversions are actually listed for the user.
This is another fantastic game for students who learn visually. It is easily
used on a Smartboard and will engage students for long periods of time. |
