Built between
1732 and 1753, Independence Hall, located in Philadelphia,
was originally called the Pennsylvania State House.
Independence
Hall was the site of the meeting of the first Continental
Congress, and the site of the signing of two of America's
most important documents: the Declaration of Independence,
and the U.S. Constitution. The nation's most famous bell,
the cracked Liberty Bell, rung from the towers of the
building for 224 years (until 1976). Independence Hall
is pictured on the back of the $100 bill and on the back
of the 1976 Kennedy half-dollar.
