Description: The
Chipping Sparrow is common throughout much
of the United States and Canada. Measuring
about 5 inches in length, the Chipping
Sparrow has a bright rufous cap, white
stripe above the eye, and black stripe
through the eye. Chipping Sparrows are
grayish-white underneath, and brown with
black streaks above.
Habitat/Range/Diet: Chipping
Sparrows can be found in open woodlands,
scattered evergreen groves, evergreen forests,
and yards and gardens throughout the United
States and Canada. While Chipping Sparrows
are usually found on the ground foraging
for insects and seeds, males occasionally
sing their buzzy, cheerful song from the
very top of the tallest evergreen around. |
