Description: The Carolina Wren is a small bird, measuring about 5 inches in length. It has a rufous (brownish-red) head, back, and tail. Its underparts are a rich, buff color. The Carolina Wren is most easily identified by the conspicuous white stripe across its head. It may be confused with various sparrows, and in western parts of its range may be hard to distinguish from the similar Bewick's Wren. The Carolina Wren is more easily heard than seen. It's loud, melodious, ringing call suggests a bird much larger. Arkan

Range: The Carolina Wren is a familiar backyard visitor to many bird watchers in the eastern United States. Formerly a bird of southeastern brushlands and thickets, the Carolina Wren has expanded its range northwards in recent years, and may even be found in southern New England. Nevertheless, the Carolina Wren is restricted to the eastern United States, and doesn't even range westward to the Rocky Mountains. Unfortunately, the Carolina Wren has not yet adapted to cold, snowy winters, and may suffer population declines after cold winters in northern parts of its range.sas

Habitat/Diet: Carolina Wrens are found in wet woodlands, thickets, undergrowth, and suburban yards with substantial cover. They eat insects, berries, and will sometimes take seeds from bird feeders.
